Dan Evans announced his intention to retire at Wimbledon earlier this month.
The former world number 21 stated: “I’m looking forward to finishing on a high across these final two tournaments and giving everything I have one last time.”
Unfortunately for Evans, he was not awarded a wildcard for the Queen’s Club Championships nor Wimbledon.
The decision made by the Wimbledon organisers did not go down well with tennis fans on social media, with one individual describing the situation as ‘absolutely shameful.’
How badly treated do you feel Dan Evans has been by Wimbledon?
As a result, Evans will participate in the Wimbledon qualifying draw later this week.
On Sunday afternoon, the Briton’s first-round opponent was confirmed.

The Bolivian player, 21, is a former Roland Garros junior finalist and recently won his first-ever ATP Challenger event at the Lima Open in Peru.
If Evans advances past the Bolivian, he will play either compatriot Johannus Monday or 28th seed Tristan Schoolkate.
Evans has yet to play either player in an ATP Tour match.
Dan Evans’ last five Wimbledon campaigns
- 2025: Second round [lost to Novak Djokovic]
- 2024: First round [lost to Alejandro Tabilo]
- 2023: First round [lost to Quentin Halys]
- 2022: First round [lost to Jason Kubler]
- 2021: Third round [lost to Sebastian Korda]
Should Evans move on to the final round of qualifying, he will play one of Henrique Rocha, Nicolás Mejía, Tseng Chun-hsin, or Gustave Heide.
Rocha is the highest ranked of those four players and is seeded ninth in qualifying.

When is the Wimbledon main draw?
As reported by the reliable Michal Samulski, the Wimbledon main draw ceremony will be held on Friday, June 26 at 10 am British Summer Time [BST].
The likes of Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka will find out their paths to the Wimbledon title once said draw is made.
Sinner is the defending men’s singles champion: he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 final.

The Italian is the overwhelming favourite to defend his title, largely due to the absence of Alcaraz from this year’s event.
On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek is the defending champion.
