Mirra Andreeva is the deserved 2026 Roland Garros champion, having beaten Maja Chwalinska in straight sets earlier today.

In the end, she cruised to the title, rarely struggling in the final as she strolled to success in blustery conditions.

CoCo Vandeweghe was able to watch the match from inside the stadium, and reserved special praise for this young talent who has finally broken through.

Coco Vandeweghe admits she was really surprised by Mirra Andreeva

Speaking live on TNT Sports, the American pundit admitted: “It really was surprising to me to see the calmness from Mirra Andreeva that started from the quarter-finals. That is where she just locked in, and you could just see somebody marching to a destiny they had dreamed about.

“When I interviewed her one-on-one, that is what she talked about. I am living a dream that I always had. So this is not a surprise.

“You are playing somebody that you knew you should beat. You knew you could beat. You just have to execute, and that’s what she did.

“She is reaping the rewards. It might hit her in a few hours; this is what I accomplished for her and her team, but right now I think it’s just this is what I thought was going to happen and I did it.”

She then went on to discuss Mirra Andreeva’s confidence, which only grew as the match went on.

Vandeweghe added: “Mirra’s forehand is the wing we look at where we see where she is with her confidence. At the Australian Open she would chip that forehand a whole bunch. Today she kept driving through it, kept with the confidence, and you could just hear the difference of her ball and shot in comparison with Chwalinska.

“She was by far the better player when it came shot to shot and punch for punch, and you have to give her credit because she had every opportunity to lose in the moment and the situation, but she overcame it. She relished the moment and the opportunity, and she can now forever call herself a Grand Slam champion.”

Elsewhere, Chris Evert has made a prediction about Andreeva’s future following her first major title win.

Every player Mirra Andreeva beat on her way to the 2026 Roland Garros title

The 19-year-old began her campaign in the French capital against a French player, defeating Fiona Ferro on Philippe Chatrier.

Andreeva followed that up with what was, on paper, her toughest test of the entire event, dropping her only set of the tournament to Marina Bassols Ribera but fighting back to win.

She would then earn a couple of easy victories against Marie Bouzková and Jil Teichmann, before crushing Sorana Cirstea in the quarter-finals by a 6-0, 6-3 scoreline.

Many feared for her chances against Marta Kostyuk in the semi-finals, given the Ukrainian was the only player left who had yet to lose a clay-court match all season. Alas, Andreeva beat her as well.

Even Chwalinska, who was on a nine-match winning streak at Roland Garros, could not threaten the would-be champion.
