Coco Gauff hired Gavin MacMillan after the 2025 US Open to try and solve her much-talked about serving issues.
The American hit more double faults than anyone else on the WTA Tour in 2025, and it’s an issue that has continued into this season.
Gauff disappointed at the Qatar Open as she was beaten at the first stage by Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets.
Ahead of her appearance at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Gauff was asked if she will continue working with MacMillan.

Coco Gauff says she is ‘improving’ despite poor results
Asked if she plans to continue to work with MacMillan, Gauff responded: “I feel like I’m trusting the process. I mean, I’m very tough on myself.
“It is easy to look at this and be like, I’m doing so bad. When I look at all my seasons, maybe it’s something I need to fix, but in all my seasons, I just haven’t done well here.
Where will Coco Gauff be ranked at the end of 2026?
“I’m trying to figure out the recipe. Also in all fairness to this part of the swing, I think most players would agree they want to peak at the Grand Slams.
“For most of them – I still have to figure out Wimbledon – I have been doing that. It’s a learning process. I think my serve is improving.
“I feel more comfortable going after it. The doubles are definitely less this year. I just have to trust that.”
Gauff is yet to win a tournament in 2026 and her best performance is a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open.
Coco Gauff’s record in Dubai
Gauff’s appearance at the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships will be her sixth appearance in a row since 2021.
The American has never won the competition and her previous attempts have produced a mixed bag of results.
How long will it take for Coco Gauff to complete the career Grand Slam?
The star has reached the semi-finals and the quarter-finals, and exited at the first round stage on two occasions.
At last year’s event, Gauff was upset by her compatriot, McCartney Kessler, who defeated her in straight sets in the second round.
Gauff will play the winner of Anna Kalinskaya and Jelena Ostapenko in the second round of this year’s event, after receiving a first round bye.
