Coco Gauff may still have a big concern ahead of Wimbledon semi-final despite beating Jessica Pegula

Coco Gauff has superbly reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for the very first time, but she may be concerned about her serve heading into that match.

Gauff produced a fantastic display to make the final four at the All England Club, having won her quarter-final against Jessica Pegula.

Centre Court welcomed the American WTA superstars for the match, in which Gauff came from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 after one hour and 48 minutes.

And while her confidence will be high after the superb fightback, the 22-year-old may be worried about one crucial part of her game next time out at Wimbledon.

Who is currently the best grass-court player on the WTA Tour?

Coco Gauff continues double fault struggles despite Wimbledon win vs Jessica Pegula

Gauff is clearly struggling with double faults, but that is certainly nothing new for the two-time Grand Slam champion.

She comfortably led the entire WTA Tour in that area in both 2024 and 2025, and is on track to achieve the same unwanted feat in 2026.

And it was certainly an issue in her meeting with Pegula, which Gauff managed to win despite hitting seven double faults.

In stark contrast, her opponent hit just two, although her two aces were heavily outnumbered by Gauff’s seven.

That is definitely a major positive for the hugely talented American, along with her 1st serve points won figure of 67%.

But most significant is her worrying double faults tally, for which Gauff may not be so fortunate in her semi-final against Karolina Muchova.

Intriguingly, the winner of the all-American match-up also recorded 32 unforced errors, with the loser recording 24.

Coco Gauff endures lengthy run to Wimbledon semi-finals

Notably, Gauff has managed to claim huge success despite her serving problems and her double fault woes in particular.

The American is already a two-time Grand Slam champion at the age of 22, with 11 WTA titles and a career-high rank of two.

That highlights her fantastic resilience and mental strength, which was on show against Pegula, as it has been throughout her current run at SW19.

In fact, as per OptaAce, she is the first woman to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals with four three-setters from the second round to the quarter-finals since Kimiko Date in 1996.

Such determination is a massive weapon, but whether or not it can outweigh her double fault issues in the next round remains to be seen.

Perhaps, however, the sheer relief and delight at finally putting her difficult Wimbledon past behind her may be enough to push Gauff all the way this year.
