Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova are set for a collision in the China Open semi-final and they’ll help break an American streak with their much-anticipated clash.
Gauff defeated Eva Lys at the China Open, while Amanda Anisimova came through a thriller with Jasmine Paolini to set up the all-American clash in Beijing.
The Americans have dominated the China Open, and Emma Navarro will battle Jessica Pegula for a place in the other semi-final in Beijing.
With Americans playing at an extraordinary level, Gauff and Anisimova have achieved something for the first time since 2004.

Coco Gauff vs Amanda Anisimova is the first all-American WTA 1000 semi-final since 2004
The WTA Tour has seen a resurgence of American women battling it out for the top positions, with four of the top 10 currently from the United States.
However, Gauff and Anisimova’s all-American semi-final will see two players from the country play each other in the final four of a WTA 1000 event for the first time since 2004.
Gauff and Anisimova’s semi-final follows Serena Williams and Jennifer Capriati’s final four meeting at the 2004 Rome Open.
Capriati won that match in straight sets to go through to the final against Amelie Mauresmo, which the American lost.
Anisimova and Gauff’s clash in the China Open semi-final will be their second match on the WTA Tour and their first for over three years.
Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova’s head-to-head record
Despite battling it out for the top spots in the WTA Tour for the past few years, Anisimova and Gauff have rarely played each other.
The pair split their two matches with one win apiece, having met in the Wimbledon round of 16 and the quarterfinals of the Parma Open.
Anisimova won the Grand Slam battle, while Gauff picked up the win in Italy on the clay. Their match at the China Open will be their first-ever hard court meeting.
Gauff and Anisimova’s match is scheduled for October 4, with the order of play yet to be announced by the tournament.
