Mirra Andreeva may have only just won Roland Garros, but Caroline Wozniacki is already looking to the future.
After all, when it is as bright as this 19-year-old’s is, why wouldn’t she?
The sky really is the limit for a player who had always felt destined for Grand Slam glory. To have already achieved it should make for terrifying viewing for the rest of the WTA Tour.
Speaking to TNT Sports after watching her lift the trophy, Wozniacki referenced this burden of expectation, whilst also outlining her hopes for Mirra Andreeva’s future as well.
Caroline Wozniacki claims Mirra Andreeva will challenge for all four Grand Slams
She began by stating: “We have had big expectations on her. We know she’s had big expectations on herself. And to get this in her pocket so early in her career at 19, it frees her up going forward, right?
“So now she has a Grand Slam, people start asking, when is the second coming? Is she going to win multiple? Is she going to win ten? Is she gonna win five? And that’s the big question that we’re all gonna have, but at the end of the day, nobody can take away that she’s gonna be a Grand Slam champion.
How many Grand Slams does Mirra Andreeva win in her career? 🏆
“Now, she said, I want to be number one in the world, and I want to win a Grand Slam. So her next goal is probably gonna be, all right, we’re getting into the rest of the season. I am number one in the race. If I keep going and keep playing well, maybe I can become number one at the end of this year as well. And I mean, what an opportunity.
Andreeva’s steady improvement was what had impressed Wozniacki most, who reiterated her point whilst discussing the Russian’s chances on the different surfaces.
She added: “On a hard court, she’s gonna be very dangerous. On grass, if she can flatten out her forehand, she’s gonna be very dangerous there, too. There’s really nothing that says she’s only a clay-court player, only a hard court player.
“She’s already proven that, but I think she’s gonna be a contender in all the Grand Slams because she’s a great athlete, she has a good serve. There’s no real holes in her game, so it’s gonna be fun to watch.”
Chris Evert has already made her prediction for Andreeva’s future, and it certainly aligns with Wozniacki’s vision.
Where is Mirra Andreeva ranked now after winning Roland Garros?
Unsurprisingly, Andreeva has received a huge boost to her ranking points following this maiden major title at Roland Garros.
However, it has not really skyrocketed her up the rankings, given she was already so high beforehand.
Maja Chwalinska must surely now be given a Wimbledon wildcard! 🍓
Rising two places, Andreeva is now the sixth-best player on the WTA Tour, and will surely only keep climbing those standings.
Rather interestingly, she is actually the leader in the WTA Race, having now overtaken Aryna Sabalenka.
