Caroline Wozniacki suggests some ‘good news’ for Coco Gauff despite her shocking defeat to Elina Svitolina

Coco Gauff was torn apart by Elina Svitolina earlier today, in a hugely uncomfortable fashion.

At times, it was tough to watch, as the American constantly turned to her team, seeking any kind of reprieve.

Sadly, it did not come, as she was dumped out of the Australian Open in just under an hour.

For Svitolina, it marked a huge triumph, and she deserves so much credit for her performance today and throughout the event.

However, it’s back to the drawing board for Coco Gauff, and Caroline Wozniacki has suggested that there is good news despite this heavy loss.

The good news for Coco Gauff

Speaking live on ESPN, she admitted: “This is gonna be a great learning curve for Coco.

“She always comes back stronger, but she’s definitely gonna be watching this match, seeing what went wrong and how they can improve that for the future and for the next match.

Where will Coco Gauff be ranked at the end of 2026?

“The good news for her is that she’s still so young, she’ll have so many opportunities out here on the big stages.

“But for Svitolina, what an opportunity being back here in the semifinals and trying to go for her first major.”

Ironically, earlier in the tournament , Coco Gauff completed an achievement no player had managed since Caroline Wozniacki in 2011.

Caroline Wozniacki did see a big ‘problem’ for Coco Gauff

This may have been a somewhat sympathetic take from Wozniacki, who spoke earlier in the match about a big ‘problem’ she had spotted for Gauff.

Naturally, it concerned the troublesome forehand that has plagued her for so long.

The former WTA player, again speaking on ESPN’s live broadcast, claimed: “The problem with Coco Gauff’s forehand is confidence.

“She can get a lot of racket head speed on it, but when you don’t have confidence, that racket head speed even goes lower. It just makes it a lot harder to hit through.

“Now, Coco’s finding a way to really get more spin, get more depth on it. So when she’s feeling confident like she is now, trust doesn’t become as big of an issue.”
