Caroline Wozniacki has not officially retired from tennis despite not appearing on the WTA Tour since the 2024 US Open.

The Dane is a former world number one and Grand Slam champion, having won the Australian Open in 2018.

Wozniacki has often teased a comeback to the sport, including the prospect of a mouth-watering partnership with Holger Rune for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 that she’s frequently teased.

The 35-year-old has kept a watchful eye on the current players on the tour and she’s named the player she doesn’t want to play.

Caroline Wozniacki would not like to play Jelena Ostapenko

Wozniacki has named her former rival Jelena Ostapenko as a current player she would not want to face again.

Speaking to Nothing Major, the Dane revealed: “I don’t think there is anyone who I’m like I can’t beat them, but there is players I don’t like to play against.

“Someone like Ostapenko, I just can’t. I would go into the match, and I am trying to play some tactical tennis and it just doesn’t happen.

“It’s either she hits every ball in the court and you’re like too good, or she hits everything out, or it’s a combination. There is just never any rhythm. I don’t like playing players who don’t have rhythm.”

Wozniacki played Ostapenko on four occasions in her career and she lost every single one of them to the Latvian.

The pair’s last meeting was at Roland Garros in 2017, which Ostapenko won in three sets. The set won by Wozniacki was just the second she managed to win against Ostapenko in her career.

Caroline Wozniacki’s career achievements

Wozniacki is one of the rare players who managed to become the world number one without winning a Grand Slam.

The star reached the summit in 2010 after reaching the WTA Finals semi-final, but it wasn’t for a further eight years until she won her maiden Grand Slam.

The Dane reached two further Grand Slam finals before her win at the Australian Open, but she lost both of them.

The star lost to Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams in the US Open final in 2009 and 2014, losing in straight sets to both.

Wozniacki did, however, manage to capture 30 career titles throughout her career, including six premier titles.

Her last final came at the Charleston Open in 2019, but she lost the match to Madison Keys in straight sets.
