Carlos Alcaraz’s coaches receive historic achievement following ATP Tour Coach of the Year win

Juan Carlos Ferrero and Samuel López have overseen Carlos Alcaraz’s incredible tennis career since 2019.

The two men have been pivotal in the star’s journey from teenage prodigy to the number one-ranked player in the world.

Juan Carlos Ferrero still has big plans for Alcaraz, despite the Spaniard ending the year as world number one and adding another two Grand Slams to his collection.

Ferrero and Lopez won an ATP Award for Coach of the Year this term, and it has been followed up by another excellent honour.

Juan Carlos Ferrero and Samuel Lopez earn incredible award

As well as their ATP Award for Coach of the Year, Ferrero and Lopez have also been awarded by the  
International Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame.

The ceremony took place at Ferrero’s tennis academy and it sees them join esteemed company in the sport.

Alcaraz’s coaches have joined 13 other names who have been given the Bob Brett Mentoring Award in tennis.

The award was named after legendary Australian tennis coach Bob Brett, who worked with everyone from Boris Becker to Goran Ivanisevic.

They join the likes of Marian Vajda and Peter Lundgren, the former of whom has overseen Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam success.

What Carlos Alcaraz has said about working with Juan Carlos Ferrero

Speaking in 2023, after the Spaniard had won just two Grand Slams, Alcaraz brandished Ferrero as his ‘mentor’.

He continued: “Everything that I have done is thanks to him. I learned a lot from him not only in the professional part, even the personal part as well.

What do you think about Carlos Alcaraz’s decision to play in exhibition events?

“People are giving Carlos a hard time for him pulling out of the Davis Cup but still playing this [exhibition vs Fonseca]. I think that is insane.

“There is a vast difference between a competitive match and an exhibition, health-wise.”

“He’s my second father so he is a really important person for me. Everything that I’ve come through at the beginning, he was experienced in that moment, and I learned about how to deal in a lot of tough moments, you know, and first things about everything.”

Alcaraz, Lopez, and Ferrero will continue their partnership in 2026, where the star can earn his Career Grand Slam at the Australian Open.
