Carlos Alcaraz has reacted on social media after winning his second-ever US Open title last night.
It was a terrific performance to cap off a sensational tournament for the 22-year-old, who dropped just a single set on his way to defeating Jannik Sinner to dethrone the defending champion.
Given all the claims about his apparent consistency before the event, he’s certainly put those claims to bed in emphatic fashion.
And it did not take long for him to take to social media, offering a wordless but hugely expressive post that summed up his US Open experience.
Carlos Alcaraz reacts to winning US Open title on social media
Carlos Alcaraz’s tendencies on social media are often the subject of lighthearted ridicule by many fans, who suggest he is a man of few words, even after his biggest triumphs.
This latest post will do little to dispel that rumour, as he accompanied his picture of himself holding the US Open title with just four emojis as a caption.
However, they certainly told the story of his success, with a kissing emoji next to a trophy rather self-explanatory.
He then paired that with the number one emoji, in reference to the fact that he will not return to the top of the world rankings after beating Sinner and thus preventing him from defending his title in New York.
Alcaraz named the area of his game that shocked even himself, not just during that final, but throughout the entire event.
The stats behind Carlos Alcaraz’s US Open final victory over Jannik Sinner
It’s quite easy, when delving through the statistics of last night’s final, to point out where the match was won.
After all, whilst Alcaraz enjoyed yet another supreme serving day, Sinner faltered, creating conditions that led to a rather one-sided scoreline.
Whilst the six-time Grand Slam champion got 61% of his first serves in, his opponent managed just 48%. Sinner would only win 69% of those points, compared to Alcaraz’s 83%.

The second serve followed the same trend, which thus explains how the Italian only managed to create a single break point all match.
Meanwhile, he double-faulted four times and hit just two aces. Alcaraz would strike ten aces and didn’t double-fault once.
It was perfection from the baseline that coincided with an uncharacteristically poor day at the office for Sinner.
