Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have one of the most captivating rivalries in tennis right now, and this is only just the beginning.
Aged 22 and 24 respectively, we are still expected to see these two compete at the apex of the sport for at least the next decade, challenging for the sport’s elite honours.
And, given just how dominant they have been, their regular meetings in finals seem unlikely to end anytime soon.
Already, we have seen Carlos Alcaraz face Jannik Sinner 16 times, eight of which came in a final. When looking at the world rankings, the gulf between them and the chasing pack indicates that this is where they will forever be destined to meet.
What is arguably most endearing about their rivalry, though, is the respect they clearly have for one another.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner speak about their rivalry
In fact, the relationship is perfectly exemplified by their respective method of transportation from their recent exhibition match in Korea: they shared a plane over to Australia.
And, almost as soon as they landed, they were interviewed as a duo.
Carlos Alcaraz WILL complete the Career Grand Slam before Jannik Sinner – discuss…
Asked about their rivalry, Alcaraz pointed out what he likes most about it: “When I think we push each other, you know, to be better, so I think that’s what I keep from this good rivalry. Everybody needs someone that pushes you to be better to give you your 100% and I think that’s what we’re doing, you know, every time.”
Sinner added: “Yeah, I mean, I believe everyone is different, you know, in a way, so it’s good for the sport to have different personalities and game styles, and it’s great, you know, to share a court with him.
“You know, I see a completely different point of view, how to approach certain points, and it’s great.”
Carlos Alcaraz’s current head-to-head record against Jannik Sinner
As noted earlier, Alcaraz and Sinner have played each other 16 times in a competitive scenario, not counting clashes like the one earlier this week in Korea.
And, due to their rise to the top of the world rankings, all of the last seven have been in finals, with the five before that having all been in semi-finals too.
Their growth into one of tennis’ most dominant duos of recent memory has been meteoric, and seems unlikely to relent anytime soon.
Alas, throughout 2025, there was a fear that the head-to-head was getting away from Sinner despite the fact that he held the top spot in the world rankings for much of the year.
After all, before winning their Wimbledon final, the Italian was enduring a five-match losing streak, and even after lost the next two.
Who do you think will retire with more Grand Slam titles?
It was Sinner’s win in the ATP Finals that reignited this rivalry, leaving the head-to-head standing at 10-6 in Alcaraz’s favour.
How that shifts in 2026 will be intriguing to watch, as they continue to clash for the sport’s greatest prizes.
