Carlos Alcaraz matched his career-best season wins by defeating Brandon Nakashima at the Japan Open.
Alcaraz was at his best at the Japan Open as he raced to a dominating straight-sets win against the American, earning his 65th win on the ATP Tour.
That matched Alcaraz’s previous record for wins, which came in 2023, and many fans have begun to wonder whether the World No. 1 can break Novak Djokovic’s all-time record.
Djokovic won 82 matches on the ATP Tour in 2015, and Alcaraz has shared his thoughts on matching the incredible record.

Carlos Alcaraz is not thinking about beating Novak Djokovic’s record
Alcaraz was asked about breaking Djokovic’s record at the Japan Open press conference, but he played down the idea that he could do so.
“Honestly, I’m not thinking about that,” revealed the Spaniard. “The future is uncertain, and it’s too distant a topic.”
The star said his attention was focused on a match-by-match basis as he looks to win his debut Japan Open.
“All I can do is give my best every day and continue to grow,” said Alcaraz. “To become a better player and a better person, I put in 100% effort in both practice and matches.”
The star, who plays Casper Ruud in the Japan Open semi-final, tries to focus on what he can improve, rather than records.
“I don’t worry about anything else, and I have no intention of thinking about it in the future,” said the World No. 1.
Carlos Alcaraz will need to put personal friendships aside at the Japan Open
Alcaraz will come up against his Laver Cup teammate Ruud in the semi-final of the Japan Open shortly after the pair built up a strong friendship at the tournament.
Speaking at a Laver Cup press conference, the Norwegian revealed: “I can only say good things about Carlos.
“I had the opportunity to spend time with him this week, he is a fantastic man. What he does is incredible, having a young guy like him is great news for tennis.”
Ruud and Alcaraz have shared the court on five occasions, with the Spaniard notching up four wins against the World No. 12.
