Carlos Alcaraz reveals what the score was when he played Alexander Zverev before the Australian Open in practice

Carlos Alcaraz has secured yet another straight-sets victory at the Australian Open, moving into the semi-finals with minimal fuss.

It’s almost alarming the rate at which he has strolled through this year’s event, having gone untroubled throughout his first five matches.

Even Tommy Paul and the in-form Alex de Minaur were powerless to prevent him from maintaining his spotless record in Melbourne, as his quest for the career Grand Slam continues.

Next up, it’s Alexander Zverev, who has been handed the unenviable task of trying to stop this immovable individual.

Carlos Alcaraz has spoken about the unique challenges his next Australian Open opponent poses.

Chatting with Jim Courier on court, the Spaniard began by praising De Minaur.

After all, despite the scoreline, the hometown hero dug deep and was unfortunate not to at least take the first set to a tiebreak.

In the end though, Alcaraz has proven himself a level above everyone aside from Jannik Sinner, and it’s up to Zverev to somehow buck that trend.

Despite this, it’s the six-time Grand Slam champion who will be seeking to improve his level further against the German, as he stated: “I think I can increase my level. I have seen Sascha through the whole tournament, and I know he is playing great tennis. Very solid, aggressively. I think he is serving well as well. I have to be ready.

“We practised in the week before the tournament began, and he beat me 7-6, but playing so great tennis.

“We have to be ready. Not only me, but my team as well. We are all a team. We have to be ready to play tactically really well.

“It is going to be a great battle. I am looking forward to playing him again here, taking revenge.”

De Minaur spoke about the scorching Melbourne heat ahead of the match, but that proved to be a non-factor as the roof on Rod Laver Arena was closed from the start.

Carlos Alcaraz’s head-to-head record vs Alexander Zverev

Alcaraz goes into almost every match he plays with a positive head-to-head against his opponents.

Alas, that will not be the case on Friday, as he and Zverev have both enjoyed six wins apiece against one another.

Naturally, the 28-year-old took advantage of his experience in their first few matches, before Alcaraz began clawing things back of late.

He has won three of their last four matches, including in the 2024 Roland Garros final too.

Both players have so much to play for, as the world number one seeks to become the youngest-ever to complete the career Grand Slam. Meanwhile, Zverev’s search for a maiden Grand Slam title goes on.

With so much on the line, this could be an enthralling semi-final clash here in Melbourne.
