Carlos Alcaraz’s time at the Australian Open has been smooth so far, as he has made his way to the third round without dropping a set.
Alcaraz has defeated Yannick Hanfmann and Adam Walton so far in Melbourne, and he will face a third round test against Corentin Moutet.
The Spaniard is yet to show his best tennis at the Australian Open, but he will no doubt need to oust Jannik Sinner at the tournament he has won in the last three years.
Alcaraz named the Australian Open as one of the two tournaments he wanted to win the most in 2026, but he snubbed the other three Grand Slams for another event for the second.

Alcaraz is yet to win either tournament in his career, and an Australian Open victory would see him achieve a Career Grand Slam.

If the Spaniard wins the Australian Open in 2026, he will become the youngest player to collect all four Grand Slams.
Alcaraz opting for the Davis Cup over the other three Grand Slams could be a surprise, although he has always spoken of how proud he is to represent his country.
The star was expected to star for Spain in the 2025 Davis Cup Finals, but he pulled out after suffering an injury at the ATP Finals.
Spain reached the final of the tournament, but lost to an Italy team featuring Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini, who won a third straight Davis Cup final.

Alcaraz might have come through the Australian Open unscathed so far, but John McEnroe believes the Spaniard can play much better for the rest of the tournament.
The American professional-turned-broadcaster even went as far to say that Alcaraz ”didn’t really play that well’ against Hanfmann while speaking on TNT Sports.

“Of course, the top guys want to save it for the second week. But you can’t bank on it. But he settled in as the match went on started doing his thing a little better.
“But he’s not gonna look at this match and be like, ‘Wow, okay, that’s where I need to be’, because he’s definitely got some room for improvement.”
Alcaraz’s match against Moutet is set to take place on Friday, 23 January, with the order of play yet to be confirmed.
