Carlos Alcaraz’s quest for a second US Open title will continue on Wednesday evening.
The Spaniard navigated his way past big-serving Reilly Opelka in the US Open first round and is set to face Italy’s Mattia Bellucci next.
Alcaraz last won the US Open in 2022, defeating Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud on his way to the title.
The 22-year-old’s form has been impressive in 2025, winning 54 matches and losing just six on the ATP Tour.

One notable figure has praised Alcaraz after his latest victory, claiming there is a part of his game that is better than any other in the sport.
Rick Macci says Carlos Alcaraz is the ‘best mover’ in tennis
Rick Macci, who is credited with the early tennis development of the Williams sisters, has weighed in on a particular aspect of Carlos Alcaraz’s game.
Macci, who has also coached Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick, has claimed that Alcaraz is the ‘best mover’ in tennis.
On X [Twitter], Macci said: “Carlos is the best mover in the sport. Faster than fast. Quicker than quick.
“But his movement went to another level, and looked more aerodynamic, and was a cut above after the three-set match with the barber.”
This is a fair assessment from the American coach. Alcaraz is electric every single time he steps onto the court and his court coverage is only rivalled by Jannik Sinner and Alex de Minaur.
Alcaraz and his next opponent, Mattia Bellucci, have never played each other before on the ATP Tour.
Alcaraz rivals Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal
It seems like every other day that Carlos Alcaraz makes history, and with victory over Opelka, he did so yet again.
As per OptaAce, Carlos Alcaraz has joined Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal as the only male players who began their career in the Open Era 19-0 in their first 19 opening Men’s Singles matches in Grand Slam main draws.
If Alcaraz defeats his second-round opponent in New York, he could face another Italian player in the form of Luciano Darderi.
Darderi has enjoyed an excellent 2025 campaign, capturing three ATP Tour titles. The Italian, ranked 34 in the world, will face off against American youngster Eliot Spizzirri in the US Open second round.
