Carlos Alcaraz was unable to defend his Monte Carlo crown on Sunday, losing to Jannik Sinner in the final.

Both Alcaraz and Sinner struggled to deal with the blustery conditions in Monaco, as the pair combined to hit 83 unforced errors across the contest.

Sinner eventually emerged victorious, defeating the Spaniard 7-6, 6-3.

Following the contest, Alcaraz was his usual gracious self, expressing his happiness in seeing Sinner lift the title while also praising the Italian’s impressive form.

Alcaraz has emerged as one of the sport’s greatest role models, and his post-ceremony conduct did little to sway that train of thought.

Carlos Alcaraz’s post-match conduct demonstrates why he is a great role model

Following his loss in the Monte Carlo final, Carlos Alcaraz would have most certainly been feeling downtrodden after being defeated by one of his greatest rivals.

The 22-year-old put any ill feeling to the side, instead choosing to demonstrate maturity beyond his years.

Throughout his young career, Alcaraz has proven time and again that he is one of the most polite and good-natured individuals on the Tour: a player who is gracious in defeat while also willing to engage with fans – no matter the scenario he finds himself in.

Alcaraz’s decorum was on full display once again after the Monte Carlo final.

Following a gracious post-match speech – during which he lauded his opponent’s level of play – Alcaraz took time to speak to an injured Monte Carlo ball girl.

During the video captured by Eurosport France, Alcaraz can be seen speaking to the ball girl, before gifting the youngster a spare version of his shirt.

The Spaniard did all this while signing autographs for fans in the crowd.

Alcaraz remains a fan favourite on the ATP Tour, and it is easy to understand why after his latest act of kindness.

Carlos Alcaraz won the 2025 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award

Alcaraz’s grace and decorum has long been recognised by the ATP Tour.

The Spaniard has twice won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, in 2023 and 2025.

Alcaraz received the 2025 award before participating in the Monte Carlo Masters.

Upon receiving the award, he said: “It means a lot, to be honest. Every person that voted for me for this award, it means a lot. I’m just really, really happy about getting it.

“Lets see this year who it’s going to be, but I’m going to fight for it.”

This year, Alcaraz will certainly be among the favourites to win the award for a third time; and his conduct in Monte Carlo will have not have harmed his chances of doing so.
