Carlos Alcaraz now stands above Roger Federer in a key area after beating Joao Fonseca in Miami

Carlos Alcaraz came through a potential banana skin against Joao Fonseca in the second round of the Miami Open.

Alcaraz was complimentary of Fonseca’s game after beating him 6-4 6-4 to confirm his place in the third round.

The world number one will now play Sebastian Korda next as he looks to win the Miami Open for a second time.

Alcaraz’s victory against Fonseca saw him rise above Roger Federer in one key area as he continued to prove he’s one of the best players in the game.

Carlos Alcaraz ousts Roger Federer after latest Miami Open win

The Spaniard earned his 89th victory at Masters level by defeating Fonseca in straight sets at the Miami Open.

Alcaraz now holds an 89-25 win-loss record at ATP 1000 events, which equates to an incredible 78.1% win rate.

Only Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal hold a better record than Alcaraz now from players who have played a minimum of 20 matches at Masters level.

The Spaniard has now risen above Federer’s win rate at ATP 1000 events, as the Swiss star finished his career with 77.9% victory rate.

It’s entirely possible that Alcaraz can continue to outstrip the other two members of the ‘big three’ at Masters level, as he is just 22 years old.

Alcaraz’s last victory at Masters level came at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, after the Spaniard lifted the trophy thanks to Jannik Sinner’s retirement.

Since his first victory in 2022, Alcaraz has managed to collect an incredible seven Masters titles in the last five years.

The star has won six different Masters events, with his only double victory coming on home soil at the Madrid Open.
