Carlos Alcaraz continued his smooth progress through the Australian Open by picking up a straight sets victory against Corentin Moutet.

The world number one dropped just seven games against the unconventional Frenchman to set up a fourth round clash with Tommy Paul.

Alcaraz says he’s made ‘valuable’ changes to his game ahead of the Australian Open, and he is yet to hit top gear in Melbourne.

Despite not yet hitting a top level, the Spaniard has managed another stellar tennis record that only Bjorn Borg can beat.

Carlos Alcaraz hits impressive Grand Slam record at the Australian Open

Alcaraz’s victory over Moutet was the Spaniard’s 100th match at a Grand Slam, and he holds a remarkable record within those games.

The world number one has now won 87 matches out of those 100, which can only be bettered by tennis legend, Borg.

In the same amount of matches, Borg managed just one more win than Alcaraz, but every other tennis star is below Alcaraz.

Alcaraz’s 87% win rate at Grand Slams is testament to his dominance over the past few years, where he has won four majors in two years.

The star is looking to change his surprisingly poor Australian Open record in Melbourne, where he has only ever reached the quarter-finals.

If Alcaraz wins the Australian Open this year, he will become the youngest player in tennis history to secure a Career Grand Slam.

Carlos Alcaraz handed boost by the Australian Open

Melbourne is set to be hit by extreme heat on the 24 January, so Alcaraz can count himself lucky that he will not play on the Saturday.

Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, has been given the exceptionally tough task of a daytime match against Eliott Spizzirri in the Australian heat.

Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz’s other rival for the title, will also have to play on 24 January, although he will play after Sinner.

This could provide Alcaraz with a major boost over his rivals as he has a rest day on the most difficult weather day of the Grand Slam so far.
