Carlos Alcaraz captured his 24th ATP Tour title on Tuesday, winning the Japan Open for the first time.

Alcaraz, who has since withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters, defeated American star Taylor Fritz in the final, winning the contest 6-4, 6-4.

This victory marked the Spaniard’s eighth ATP Tour title of 2025: a testament to the hard work both he and his coaching team have put in over the last year.

Despite his young age, Alcaraz has already eclipsed the achievements of his head coach, former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero.

In fact, Alcaraz has already emulated a personal feat of Ferrero’s.

Juan Carlos Ferrero quite possibly had the best season of his career in 2003.

The Spaniard claimed tournament victories in Monte-Carlo and Valencia, before capturing his first and only Grand Slam title at the French Open.

On September 8, Ferrero achieved the status of world number one for the first time in his career, after reaching the final of the US Open.

By the end of 2003, Ferrero had amassed 67 singles victories – the best total of his career for a single season.

Fast forward to 2025, and Carlos Alcaraz has already matched Ferrero’s best-ever for a single season.

The 22-year-old has won 67 singles matches this season, including his one singles victory at the Laver Cup.

Alcaraz’s next event is the Six Kings Slam

After withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters due to concerns regarding the health of his left ankle, one must wonder whether Alcaraz will participate in the Six Kings Slam.

Moreover, the Spaniard again bemoaned the intense ATP Tour schedule after winning the Japan Open. Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether the 22-year-old maintains his place in the tournament.

The exhibition event, taking place from October 15 to 18, will also feature Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
