Carlos Alcaraz ‘a better version of Novak Djokovic’ claims Grand Slam legend

18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova has dubbed Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz as a “better version of Novak Djokovic”.

The 19-year-old Alcaraz has made incredible strides this season, with the man from Murcia becoming the youngest player in Tour history to win an ATP 500 event and also becoming the youngest ever Miami Open champion.

Alcaraz has kept his great form going during the clay court season as he claimed his first clay court title last week at the Barcelona Open.

On Sunday, the teen tennis star Alcaraz claimed his second consecutive title as he dismantled Alexander Zverev in straight sets to lift his second Masters 1000 trophy of his career.

As a result, Carlos Alcaraz has a 28-3 record for the season, a new career high ranking of 6 in the world and has gone 10 matches unbeaten.

Two of the ten matches saw Alcaraz record back-to-back wins over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Madrid Masters respectively, becoming the first man ever to complete this feat on clay.

Speaking following Carlos Alcaraz’s win over the Serbian, Grand Slam legend Martina Navratilova insisted that Alcaraz is already a better player than Djokovic, who struggled to cope with the threat of his younger opponent over the course of their semi-final meeting in Madrid.

In a recent interview with Amazon Prime Video, the two-time French Open champion said, “For me, he’s a better version of Djokovic. He moves like Novak but he hits a better ball out wide, more powerful than I’ve ever seen. He’s defying the laws of gravity out there.”
