Cameron Norrie is into the second round of the US Open.

After taking a two-set lead against home favourite Sebastian Korda, the American retired from the match due to injury.

The Brit is aiming to progress beyond the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the first time in his career.

It will not be easy, but Cameron Norrie is embracing the challenge and he is ready to have a strong run at the US Open this season.

Cameron Norrie says his favourite US Open match is Juan Martin del Potro vs Dominic Thiem in 2017

Norrie watched tennis at the US Open for a number of years before he arrived on the ATP Tour.

Several iconic matches have taken place at the tournament, such as Rafael Nadal’s epic five-set victory against Daniil Medvedev in the 2019 final.

During an interview with the ATP Tour website, Norrie named the US Open fourth round match between Juan Martin Del Potro and Dominic Thiem as the favourite that he watched at the tournament.

“I don’t know if it’s the best, but the one between [Juan Martin] del Potro and Dominic Thiem,” he said.

“It was the fourth round in 2017 and DelPo came back from two-sets-to-love [down].

“That one stuck out for me. The comeback was unreal, some of the forehands DelPo was hitting towards the end of his career, and I think it meant a lot to him.”

Juan Martin del Potro overcame a fever to beat Dominic Thiem at the 2017 US Open

Del Potro was struggling with illness during his round of 16 encounter with Thiem at the 2017 US Open.

The Austrian powered through the first two sets, losing just three games in the process, before the unthinkable happened.

Del Potro then stormed through set three before saving two match points in the fourth set tiebreak to level the match, before claiming the fifth set to seal a monumental win.

“Oh my God,” Del Potro said after his 1-6, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(1), 6-4 victory. “I don’t know what can I say after this big battle. I was sick the last two days. I came here trying to play as well as I can.

“When I saw all of this crowd cheering for me, my illness cleared up. I was trying to feel better every game. I fight like this because of you guys.”

“I would like to have the trophy after these five matches,” said Del Potro with a smile. “I’m so happy to go through after playing this great match. I enjoyed it a lot. I think it’s enough for me but maybe I have the chance to play Roger again, which is special for me, and I would like to play my best tennis.”
