The American twins guaranteed they will finish the year on top for a ninth time by winning their tenth title of the season at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

It follows a remarkable 25-match winning streak that began with victory in May and saw them clinch the French Open and Wimbledon as they became the first doubles team to hold all four majors and the Olympic gold medal.

They will now bid to become the first team in the Open Era to win a calendar year Grand Slam, and the first men since Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman in 1951 to achieve the feat.

"To clinch the year-end No. 1 ranking this early in the season is a dream come true,” Bob said. “It's always our ultimate goal starting out each season and this will give us great confidence going into New York. There is still a lot of tennis left and we want to keep our foot on the gas."
