The world number 361 had one of the best victories of her career as she defeated world number 187 Meng Yuan of China 7-6 (7/5) 6-3.

Broady said: “I served really well and that was the key. In the tie-break it just all started to click together and I kept playing really well. I want to keep doing that for the rest of the tournament.”

The 19-year-old will now meet American Abigail Spears in the final round of qualifying on Monday.

British number 15 Tara Moore lost 4-6 6-1 6-4 to Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa.

Natasha Khan, the British number 16, lost 3-6 6-4 6-2 to Portugal’s Michelle Larcher de Brito and Jocelyn Rae, ranked 21 in Britain, was beaten 3-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-2 to Holland’s former Wimbledon quarter-finalist Michaela Krajicek.
