Blake had been on the cusp of victory yesterday when rain forced the players off with the score 6-1 3-6 5-3 and at deuce on Blake’s service.

The seventh seed quickly wrapped up the match today with two winners to claim his first success since beating world number five Juan Martin del Potro at the Australian Open.

“That was quick,” Blake said.

“It’s what I was hoping for, but it’s a different situation than you’re really used to when you’re getting ready for a match.

“You get all warmed up and ready to go, you’re excited after just the first point, so it’s tough mentally, but I got through it and now I’m ready for more.”

In today’s only other match, Leonardo Mayer defeated his namesake and sixth seed Florian Mayer 6-4 7-6 (7/4) in a second-round contest.
