Billie Jean King, like many, has been left excited at the prospect of Serena Williams returning to professional tennis.

After all, it would see one of the greatest players of all time make her triumphant return to the sport, just four years after she left.

The 44-year-old has remained coy on the rumours, seeking to downplay any fanfare that has built up in recent weeks.

However, most fans are not buying it and will patiently await an official announcement, hopefully in the new year.

Billie Jean King names the area of Serena Williams’ game that is the greatest ever

Speaking to Sky Sports about this hot topic, just after Billie Jean King gave her initial reaction to Serena Williams’ potential comeback, the legendary figure then diverted her attention to what made the 23-time Grand Slam champion so great.

In assessing her game, King outlined what she was desperate for everyone to understand about Williams, noting: “I want everyone to understand one thing about Serena. Serena has the most beautiful service game in the world, ever. No one’s ever had a better technique on their serve than Serena Williams.

Are there any other players you would like to see come out of retirement? If so, who?

“I saw it when she was six years old. I saw her serve. I went: ‘Oh my God, don’t change a thing’.

“If she does come back, I want people to appreciate her serve. Pete Sampras and I used to talk about it. Her serve is so perfect technically. All the kids out there that want to be great, watch her serve.

“Her serve is the all-time technique ever in the history of the game, still.”

Roger Federer makes his own announcement

Whilst all the talk of Serena Williams’ potential return has understandably dominated headlines, it might have been missed that Roger Federer is also planning a comeback of his own.

After all, he announced his plans to make an appearance at the Australian Open next month, in what will be his first since 2020.

He will be taking part in a ‘Battle of the World No. 1s’ match, with Andre Agassi, Patrick Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt also involved.

This marks the inaugural opening ceremony for the first Grand Slam of the year.
