Ben Shelton has faced a number of recent challenges, which he has reflected upon after his disappointing Roland Garros exit.

Shelton won an ATP 500 title in Munich at the start of the clay court season, which is his biggest title on the surface so far.

However, the American was unable to continue this form throughout the clay court season, having won just two of his six matches since then, culminating in Shelton’s second round defeat at Roland Garros to Raphael Collignon.

Following his worst Grand Slam result in three years, Shelton has posted a message on social media to reflect on the difficulties he has gone through in recent times.

Shelton’s struggles have not only been on the court, as he has also suffered a family bereavement following the passing of his grandmother.

While he did not specifically comment on this in his most recent Instagram post, Shelton pointed towards the personal difficulties he has faced.

However, Shelton explained that he is now trying to look for the positives ahead, including the grass court season.

He wrote, “Been a brutal couple of months for me to say the least. But like I’ve said before, the failure only fuels me and I got a lot to be grateful for. See you guys on the (grass emoji).”

Although he only won one match at Roland Garros, Shelton is currently still positioned as world number five in the live rankings.

Ben Shelton’s schedule for the grass court season

Shelton is now looking ahead to the grass court season, on a surface where he has mixed results in the past.

The world number five reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year, but Shelton has only won four of his 12 grass court matches at ATP Tour events.

Shelton will be hoping to improve this at his upcoming tournaments, having entered both the Stuttgart Open and the Halle Open before Wimbledon.

Last year, Shelton reached the semifinals in Stuttgart, but he has never played at the ATP 500 tournament in Halle before.

The Stuttgart Open gets underway on Monday, June 8, when Shelton will look to return to winning ways.
