Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the Roland Garros second round after defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro on Tuesday afternoon.
Sabalenka proved too strong for her Spanish peer, winning 6-4, 6-2 on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Sabalenka, who is seeking to win her first Roland Garros title at this year’s event, will play Elsa Jacquemot or Linda Fruhvirtova in the second round.
Can anyone realistically stop Aryna Sabalenka from going ‘all the way’ at Roland Garros this year? 🏆
Immediately after the contest, Sabalenka discussed a number of matters with TNT Sports.
Aryna Sabalenka reacts after beating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
That’s the most enjoyable part of the game right now, that I am able to come to the net and play points there,” Sabalenka told TNT Sports after Tuesday’s contest.
“It is so much fun. I am super proud I was able to improve that part of the game and bring it on court.”

Sabalenka was then asked if she feels any ‘pressure’ with regards to being the world number one.
Sabalenka has been the world number one since October 21, 2024 and has now spent a total of 92 weeks in the top spot.
“I think we all feel pressure,” Sabalenka said. “That is just part of our lives. I am so used to it, I have learned how to ignore.”
The Belarusian was recently named the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year following her stellar 2025 campaign on the WTA Tour.

Last year, Sabalenka won the US Open and reached two more Grand Slam finals in Melbourne and Paris.
“That’s so crazy,” Sabalenka said of her award. “There is so many incredible women athletes, doing incredible things. It’s so inspiring.
“Getting to win this award means a lot. I am super honoured.
“I hope I deserve it and I am a good example and I hope the next generation take the best out of me.”
Who will win the Roland Garros Women’s Singles title?
The 27-year-old went on to discuss the conditions at Roland Garros. Temperatures have soared in the French capital at the start of the event, leaving some players struggling in the sweltering heat.
“I still am trying to learn what is perfect for me!” Sabalenka concluded.
“I enjoy both, if it’s cold and slow or if it’s hot and quick I try to enjoy the game and do my best.
“Let’s hope this is the perfect conditions for me and it suits my game and it’s going to help me.”
Who could Aryna Sabalenka play in the third round?
Aryna Sabalenka is the strong favourite to advance to the third round in Paris, regardless of whether she plays Jacquemot or Fruhvirtova.
If Sabalenka does advance to the third round, she will face Australian player Daria Kasatkina or world number 215 Susan Bandecchi.
Kasatkina defeated Zeynep Sonmez in round one, while Bandecchi beat 31st seed Cristina Bucsa.
Sabalenka has a 7-2 record against Kasatkina, last defeating the Australian 6-1, 6-4 at the 2024 Berlin Open.

Sabalenka has never played Susan Bandecchi on the WTA Tour.
If Sabalenka advances to the fourth round, she will likely play Iva Jovic or Naomi Osaka.
