Aryna Sabalenka will go down as one of the greatest players of her generation, but her record in finals is rather astounding.
After all, despite being the dominant force on the WTA Tour for years now, she has just four Grand Slam titles to show for all her hard work.
Realistically, nobody has come close to her quality and consistency, yet of the eight major finals she has reached, the world number one has only won half of them.
Clearly aware of this phenomenon, Aryna Sabalenka set about fixing this struggle after the Australian Open final earlier this year, which was the latest crushing blow suffered when so close to the crown.
How many Grand Slams will Aryna Sabalenka win this year?
She looks unstoppable right now!
She has now revealed to Tennis Channel the exact conversation shared with her team after that match, which clearly worked given she is now the Indian Wells and Miami Open champion.
Aryna Sabalenka’s key change which won her the Sunshine Double
Sabalenka began her interview by reacting to becoming just the fifth woman in tennis history to have completed the Sunshine Double.
She claimed: “That sounds crazy. It sounds unreal, honestly. I don’t know how I was able to achieve that. I’m just super grateful, super, super happy and super proud right now.”
Do you think Coco Gauff will win a Grand Slam title this year?
Then, turning her attention to that Australian Open disappointment, having lost to Elena Rybakina after leading the final, the 27-year-old admitted that it was tough to bounce back.
However, Sabalenka has done so with alarming ease, as she revealed: “We were chatting a lot about that final. We were trying to dig deep and find the reason why I’m letting these finals get too much in my head and why I’m letting myself get too emotional.
“Every time I have an opportunity, even though the players play super great, like an incredible level, but anyway, I had some opportunities, and I just let them go. One, I was up three-zero in the third. There was other finals where I was leading all the way and then, I don’t know, dropped the level and got super emotional and tight.
“So we were chatting a lot with my team, trying to find, like, something to improve, and mentally, we found a way to approach these finals, also I did a couple of adjustments on my racket and yeah, all together, I’m super happy to see that everything together, worked really well for me in this month.”
Aryna Sabalenka’s record in finals after the Miami Open
Sabalenka has certainly helped her record in finals after winning the Sunshine Double, which was not bad beforehand.
It’s just surprising to see a player who so regularly reaches this stage lose as often as she does.
| Year | Event | Result | Opponent in final |
| 2026 | Miami Open | Win | Coco Gauff |
| 2026 | Indian Wells | Win | Elena Rybakina |
| 2026 | Australian Open | Loss | Elena Rybakina |
| 2026 | Brisbane International | Win | Marta Kostyuk |
| 2025 | WTA Finals | Loss | Elena Rybakina |
In fact, it’s a testament to her willpower that she keeps roaring back, never deterred by setbacks.
The Belarusian has now reached 44 finals in her career, winning 24 and losing 20 to therefore give her a 54.55% win rate.
This figure drops when stepping up to the Grand Slam level, where she has only won four of her eight finals at a 50% win rate.
