Serena Williams tennis return rumours continue to rumble on despite the American great ruling it out completely.

Williams set the world alight when she re-entered the drug-testing pool earlier this month, which led to the star nipping the rumours in the bud.

Taking to X to end the speculation, Williams wrote: “Omg y’all I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

Despite Williams seemingly ending the return hype, Aryna Sabalenka has discussed what would happen if she played the American.

Aryna Sabalenka speaks on speculative match with Serena Williams

Sabalenka appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss her upcoming Battle of the Sexes match with Nick Kyrgios on 28 December.

Morgan asked Sabalenka about her thoughts on Williams’ suspected return, as well as what would happen if the two played each other.

Sabalenka replied: “From what I know, not at all. But she applied so it means that she is planning to play something, that’s for sure. Maybe for the Olympics it is too early, but maybe the US Open next year. You never know. But it’s going to be fun to watch.”

What would happen if Serena Williams played Aryna Sabalenka in 2025?

I would definitely go out there and give my very best. I know that at my very best I can beat anyone.”

When asked if she would beat Williams upon her return, Sabalenka was typically coy about the dream match.

“I mean, I cannot predict that. But I would definitely go out there and give my very best. I know that at my very best I can beat anyone.”

Williams retired from the sport in 2022, 27 years after her debut, having collected 23 singles Grand Slams.

Sabalenka and Williams crossed over just once throughout their careers and it was on one of the biggest stages.

The two giants of the sport played at the 2021 Australian Open with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.

The match went the distance, with Williams winning a tight deciding set to confirm her place in the last eight.

Williams reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2021, but was defeated by eventual winner Naomi Osaka.
