Aryna Sabalenka suffered only her second loss of the 2026 WTA season on Tuesday evening.
Hailey Baptiste, the world number 32, stunned the four-time Grand Slam champion in the Madrid Open quarter-finals, winning 2-6 6-2 7-6 in a little over two and a half hours.
By winning on Tuesday, Baptiste ended Sabalenka’s 15-match winning streak on the WTA Tour.

Baptiste also emulated Serena Williams, becoming the first American since 2013 to defeat the world number one at the Caja Magica.
It was a disappointing evening for Sabalenka, who will now turn her attention towards the Italian Open.
