Aryna Sabalenka names Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek as her biggest physical challenge

Asked about her biggest physical challenge on the court by The Jay Shetty Podcast, the US Open Champion didn’t hesitate to name Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek.

“These two, I think, physically bring the biggest challenge,” revealed the World No. 1. They move really great.”

“So, sometimes you build a point, and probably with others, this shot would be a winner, but with them, sometimes you have to like rebuild the point,” explained Sabalenka.

“Physically, it’s not easy,” she continued. “Physically and mentally, it’s not easy to stay strong and be ready [for] the ball going to come back every time. You have to be really strong physically to handle that intensity.”

Sabalenka has played Gauff 11 times in her career, winning five of those, while the World No. 1 has won the same amount against Swiatek but from 13 matches.

Sabalenka has only played Swiatek on one occasion in 2025, but it ended positively for the US Open Champion.

The Belarusian defeated the World No. 2 in the Roland Garros semi-final in a gruelling three set encounter.

That win gave Sabalenka the chance to face Gauff in the final of the French Open, where she was shocked by the American in another three set match.

Gauff and Sabalenka’s only other match of 2025 went the way of the World No. 1 as she dispatched the American in straight sets at the Madrid Open.
