Aryna Sabalenka continued impressive career record by winning the title in Brisbane

Aryna Sabalenka continued her perfect start to the 2026 season by lifting the trophy at the Brisbane International.

The world number one was imperious for the entire week and she dominated Marta Kostyuk in straight sets in the final.

Sabalenka was given a tough draw in Adelaide, but she defeated Cristina Bucsa, Sorana Cirstea, Madison Keys, and Karolina Muchova without dropping a set.

With her victory at the Brisbane International, Sabalenka continued an impressive trend that dates back to 2019.

Aryna Sabalenka wins yet another tournament to start her season

Sabalenka’s dominance on the WTA Tour has helped her forge a terrific record at the start of the last eight seasons.

Of the last eight seasons, dating back to 2019, Sabalenka has won five of her first tournaments of the season.

Aryna Sabalenka only won one Grand Slam this season, at the 2025 US Open. The star last won multiple Grand Slams in 2024, when she lifted the Australian Open and the US Open.

Sabalenka began the impressive record with her victory at Shenzhen in 2019, after she beat Alison Riske in the final.

Victories in Abu Dhabi, Adelaide, and Brisbane in the last two years followed as she started her season in perfect fashion.

Sabalenka will now head to the Australian Open, where she is looking for her third title at the Melbourne event.

The only players to beat Sabalenka in her first tournament since 2019

Only three players have managed to beat Sabalenka in her opening tournament of the WTA Tour since 2019.

At Shenzhen in 2020, Kristyna Pliskova defeated Sabalenka in straight sets to knock her out of the second round of the Chinese event.

There was an even bigger shock two years later for Sabalenka, when she was stunned in the second round of the Adelaide International in 2022 by Kaja Juvan in straight sets.

At the Brisbane International, Elena Rybakina managed to defeat Sabalenka in the final to lift the trophy in Australia.
