Arthur Fils has been incredibly impressive since returning from a seven-month absence due to a back injury.

The Frenchman has already reached an ATP final in Dubai and now he’s followed it up with a semi-final appearance at the Miami Open.

Fils beat Tommy Paul to secure his place in the final four and he will now face Jiri Lehecka for a place in the final.

With his performances so far this season, Fils has already proved why he can challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Arthur Fils’ mentality will help him challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Alcaraz and Sinner have built up such an aura during the two-year spell of dominance on the ATP Tour that players are often beaten before a ball is even hit.

The likes of Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, and Ben Shelton have been consistently blown away by the best two players in the world, but Fils has shown he is the man for the job.

His mentality and confidence are unmatched and he’s shown that in abundance during his run to the Miami Open semi-finals.

After destroying Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets, he uttered: “Oh man, I’m fully back. It’s like I never left!”

Fils’ ‘I’m him’ mentality could give him an advantage against Sinner and Alcaraz, because he won’t be overawed by the situation.

Likewise, he showed an immense mentality to dispatch his close personal friend Paul in a frenetic three set match-up, which saw the American have four match points.

It’s either him or me. Well, I prefer when it’s me,” said Fils after beating Paul in a match with three tie-breaks.

The Frenchman carries himself like a superstar and he has the ability on the court to challenge anyone. Sinner and Alcaraz should be worried by what they have been seeing from Fils during the 2026 season.

Arthur Fils’ record in 2026

Fils’ appearance at the Miami Open is his fifth tournament of the year and he’s racked up an impressive record.

The Frenchman has already won 13 matches, including excellent victories against Felix Auger-Aliassime, Jakub Mensik, and Valentin Vacherot.

Who is the better tennis pundit – John McEnroe or Andy Roddick?

All of Fils’ losses so far this season have come against top 10 players, with Auger-Aliassime, de Minaur, Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev managing to beat him.

He’s more than proved already that he has what it takes to become a top 10 player and the Miami Open could be his time to shine.

Fils is just two matches away from the biggest tournament of his career, but even more importantly, it’s a chance to show he can disrupt the elite.
