Anna Kalinskaya has matched her best-ever run at a Grand Slam over the last two weeks, but her time at Roland Garros has now come to an end.

However, the 27-year-old appears to have departed in a rather frustrated fashion, clearly unhappy with the manner of her loss to Maja Chwalinska.

The Polish qualifier has taken plenty of players by surprise during her run to the semi-finals, with Anna Kalinskaya no different.

Her reaction seems to have been more disgruntled than others though, as she actually claimed she wanted a rematch on a different surface, where she could exploit Chwalinska’s apparent lack of experience.

It felt like the bulk of Kalinskaya’s frustration came from the conditions, with the uncomfortable Roland Garros wind playing to the strengths of Chwalinska’s unorthodox game.

Discussing how she dealt with this, she admitted: “Yes, it was cold today so the ball was going slower. I couldn’t use my speed, my power, so definitely it was an advantage for her today for her game style.

“And that’s why I couldn’t feel like I was taking a lot of control of the point because my ball was not very powerful and it did not hurt her too much.”

Then, asked about whether Chwalińska’s game could translate to other surfaces, Kalinskaya appeared to take aim at her opponent, stating: “Well, I checked her statistics before; she only plays on clay, so she played maybe three matches on hard courts.

“I don’t know, let’s see how she’s gonna [perform], because now she has a better ranking, she has to play different surfaces. So I would like a rematch on grass or hard court.”

Anna Kalinskaya criticised for her reaction during Roland Garros loss

Whilst it had been a fine tournament from the Russian, the way in which she exited was rather unceremonious.

After all, Kalinskaya has actually been criticised for her conduct on court during that loss to Chwalinska, with Anne Keothavong not holding back in her analysis.

Speaking live on TNT Sports, she stated: “I’m a little disappointed by Anna Kalinskaya’s demeanour and performance.

What’s next for Aryna Sabalenka after shock French Open exit?

“I expected more from her, given the stage of the competition we’re at. She’s playing for a semi-final spot in a Slam.”

This spurred Jo Konta to add: I think that ha kind of been her achilles heel. That is something that we have gotten used to seeing from her a little bit.

“I do think Kalinskaya has this unfortunate habit of getting quite negative. I think also not willing to accept the challenge.”
