Angelique Kerber’s two decades in tennis proved she was one of the best players of her generation.
The former world number one claimed three Grand Slam titles, as well as 13 other tournaments, and an Olympic silver medal.
She played her final match at the Paris Olympics in 2024, where she was defeated by eventual winner Zheng Qinwen.
Nearly two years since she retired, the German star is set to return to the court one final time this summer.

Angelique Kerber announced to play grass court retirement match
After her retirement, Kerber became the tournament director of her home event at Bad Homburg in Germany.
The star is set to provide her tournament with a major boost by coming out of retirement to play an exhibition event.
Are there any other players you would like to see come out of retirement? If so, who?
Kerber is set to play fellow Grand Slam champion Ana Ivanovic at the grass court tournament on June 20th.
The exhibition match will be the official opener for the main draw, which begins the following day on June 21st.
The German icon won the inaugural Bad Homburg Open in 2021 after defeating Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.
Her final appearance at the tournament came during her final year as an active competitor, but she was defeated by Diana Shnaider in the first round.
Bad Homburg has become a bigger attraction in recent years
Many of Kerber’s appearances at her home tournament saw her feature as easily the biggest player at the event.
That was because Bad Homburg started off as a WTA 250 event, but that was upgraded in 2024 and it has gone from strength to strength.
If you were in charge of tennis, what is the first rule you would change?
With very few top level grass court tournaments ahead of Wimbledon, the top players now flock to the German tournament.
Last year’s final featured Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek, with the American running out the winner in straight sets.
This year’s event is yet to announce its lineup, but Kerber’s retirement match ensures it will be a destination ticket once again.
