Alexandra Eala continues to impress after her victory over Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon.

Eala beat Swiatek, who was the defending Wimbledon champion, in straight sets to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

There has been a huge reaction to the Filipina’s victory, including Billie Jean King commenting on Eala’s win.

Former world number one Andy Roddick has now also given his verdict on Eala and suggested if he thinks she can keep her run going at Wimbledon.

Andy Roddick claims Alexandra Eala is ‘not near done yet’

Both Roddick and tennis journalist Jon Wertheim were full of praise for Eala in the latest edition of the ‘Served with Andy Roddick‘ podcast.

Swiatek admitted the issue she had against Eala’s serve, which is usually seen as one of her weakest shots, and Roddick explained why he thinks this is not as much of an issue for her on grass.

Roddick then concluded by claiming that he did not think Eala was done yet, suggesting that there could still be more to come for her at Wimbledon.

How many Grand Slams will Alex Eala win in her career? 🏆

She's just knocked out the defending Wimbledon champion!

“She played great obviously, beat Iga six and two,” said Roddick. “If she keeps progressing I think there’s going to be like a national holiday week in the Philippines.”

Wertheim responded, “You say that, she came past our studio afterwards and there were like watch parties in the Philippines like the World Cup here.

“I was really impressed with her tactics, like her almost subtlety. Iga even said and she meant it as a compliment, ‘She got in my head, she confused me, she baffled me, there were slow points, she kicked it out wide, she took her time and then she rushed’.

“She’s a really confusing player, apart from being just a dynamic star from a sport-starved country. That was a real win. When you’re taking down the defending champion, Centre Court, you’ve beaten her before so that gave her some confidence.

“She held her nerve, she held it together and that was a big time win, and now 100 million people in the Philippines are doing cartwheels. I thought that was just real top shelf quality tennis.”

Roddick added, “Of the upsets today, the [Elena] Rybakina one shocked me…The Eala one based on what she does well on this surface, what Iga doesn’t like, moving ball, hitting pace to the spots and she was hitting behind Iga a lot today and using that tactic well.

“The weakest part of Eala’s game is her serve. She gets a lot of love as a leftie on grass being able to kind of hit that can opener on the Ad-side and not even having to hit it that hard and letting it just work away and she’s so good at kind of picking off that first ball. There’s a real fit at what she does well on this surface, I don’t think she’s near done yet!”

Alexandra Eala could be about to make a big rankings breakthrough

Eala has made a real breakthrough over the past year, and was seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon this year.

The Filipina was the world number 32 coming into Wimbledon, but she has now risen up to world number 28 in the live rankings.

Eala could still drop down the rankings depending on other results at Wimbledon, but she is currently forecast to reach a career-high ranking.

She is even higher in the race to the WTA Finals at 24th, which is a good sign for Eala’s potential year-end ranking.

Eala will look to continue rising up the ranks at Wimbledon, where she will play former finalist Jasmine Paolini on Monday, July 6.
