During the latest episode of ‘Served with Andy Roddick,’ Jon Wertheim and Andy Roddick discussed the incident.

Andy Roddick thought Corentin Moutet’s expletive-laden post-match interview was hilarious

Wertheim was the first to share his thoughts, explaining why he wasn’t a fan of Moutet’s interview.

“Honestly, maybe I’m just old; I didn’t think it was particularly funny, I didn’t think it was particularly clever,” said Wertheim.

“He went on this f-bomb rant; this was social media gold.

“I thought he also put the courtside interviewer, Jenny Drummond, who does a great job, in a very tight spot; she handled herself with grace.

“He went on this riff and dropped f-bombs to the great amusement of a few people.

“Should he have been punished for that? Absolutely.

“This is not to condone it. I didn’t think it was particularly funny; I didn’t think it was that cool. I get it; it was viral video gold, but you can’t, in front of a live TV audience and fans, including children, drop a string of f-bombs and not expect a fine.

“That said, he was fined $40,000, which was basically the entirety of his prize money.”

Later, Roddick delivered his verdict.

“That was JW [Jon Wertheim]; he didn’t think the Moutet thing was funny. The Moutet thing was hilarious!” he said.

“I thought the Moutet thing was funny. I know JW didn’t; I feel for the reporter; that stinks. Also, it broke me when she was like, ‘Okay, please, no more bad language’, Moutet goes under his breath, ‘yeah, yeah, sorry’, and then he leans in and does it again!

“And, let’s be honest, if I sit here and criticise someone for language after what we do here on this show every week, that’s like heights of hypocrisy that haven’t been reached before.

“Moutet, to me, is not like Meddy [Daniil Medvedev], where I admit I have a bias where I think everything that Meddy does is funny, even when I know it’s wrong; I think it’s funny. Moutet, I don’t think he’s all-time funny guy; I think he’s kind of a p— sometimes, maybe he might say the same thing.

“Whatever it is, I thought that interview was hilarious.

“I’ve had 37 friends send it to me who aren’t tennis people, who are like, ‘Who is this guy? This is hilarious,’ I thought it was really funny.

“JW, I get it, you’re coming from a different lens, I thought it was funny.

“I think the f-word is funny. I probably should outgrow it at some point; I haven’t yet.”

After losing in the second round of Queen’s and losing the majority of his prize money, Moutet travelled to Spain for the Mallorca Championships.

There, he lost his opening match to the Jordanian youngster, Abdullah Shelbayh.

Moutet will now head to Wimbledon having won just one of his four matches played on grass this year.

Has Corentin Moutet ever played well on grass?

Moutet is far from a grass-court specialist, winning just three career matches at Wimbledon.

However, he has reached a final on the surface, in Mallorca, 12 months ago.

Moutet fell short of the title, losing to Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets, but proved he can compete on grass.

He’ll hope to rediscover that form at Wimbledon later this month.
