Andy Murray is often considered one of the unluckiest players in tennis history for having to compete against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

Despite the fierce competition, Murray carved out a sensational career that included two Olympic gold medals and three Grand Slams.

Murray’s retirement from tennis has seen his achievements re-evaluated, and many believe he would have won far more majors in any other era.

Andre Agassi has now heaped praise on Murray and argued that he belongs to be in the conversation alongside Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

Andre Agassi calls Andy Murray’s career ‘remarkable’

Murray reached 11 Grand Slams finals in his career, and every loss came against either Djokovic or Federer.

Agassi believes Murray deserves more credit from fans for what he managed to achieve in the game, despite competing with the three icons.

Speaking to New Balls Please!, the American said: “I think you can’t ignore Andy Murray because he was able to have a say at the end of these tournaments during the big three era.

“Because he was able to do that he is very special. I think it’s a big four. He got to world number one at the end, won multiple Grand Slams, beat two of the three at least to win his Slams.”

Agassi theorised on just how many more majors Murray would have won if he was playing in another era of tennis.

“It was a remarkable accomplishment by Andy Murray. But those three occupying 66 Grand Slams between three guys, in the same era, come on! Imagine if one of them wasn’t there!

“Does that mean they would have won 35 majors? Who knows. This was a magical generation in our history.”

Murray ended his career with 46 career titles, which is the 15th best in the Open Era.

Andy Murray’s record against the ‘big three’

Murray ended his career with a negative head-to-head record against Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, but he still managed to beat them more than nearly everybody else on the ATP Tour.

Murray lost 14 of his 25 matches against Federer, but he picked up some huge victories against the Swiss star.

The Scot won his first Olympic gold medal by beating Federer at the London games in 2012 and he picked up two Masters titles in Shanghai and Cincinnati by defeating the Swiss star in the final.

Djokovic was able to defeat Murray more than any other player by picking up 25 victories against the British star, but he still managed 11 victories.

That included two of his Grand Slam victories, at the US Open in 2012 and Wimbledon in 2013, as well as his sole ATP Finals win in 2016.

Nadal, meanwhile, made a habit of knocking Murray out of Grand Slam semi-finals, including three on the trot in 2011 at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
