Andre Agassi predicts what’s going to happen to Carlos Alcaraz when he returns to tennis from his wrist injury

Andre Agassi has been through similar issues to Carlos Alcaraz with his wrist injury.

Alcaraz was forced to miss Roland Garros this year due to a right wrist injury he suffered at the Barcelona Open in April, and he has already withdrawn from Wimbledon as well.

This has caused a lot of concern surrounding the seven-time Grand Slam champion, but Alcaraz has given more positive updates about his injury recently.

Agassi also dealt with wrist injuries in his career, and he has predicted what could happen to Alcaraz when he comes back to tennis.

Andre Agassi thinks Carlos Alcaraz will be ‘more vicious’ when he returns

Agassi was asked about Alcaraz’s injury on The Big T Podcast, where he was questioned about whether he thinks the Spaniard can return in the same form that he left in.

The American was hopeful about this, despite not knowing Alcaraz’s full situation, but Agassi encouraged him to let it heal properly before returning.

Is it time to start panicking about Carlos Alcaraz?

He's out of another Grand Slam…

When speaking about what will happen when Alcaraz does come back to the ATP Tour, Agassi revealed that he expects him to be both more grateful and ‘more vicious’.

“I hope so,” said Agassi. “I mean, it’d be really nice of him or somebody on his behalf helps us understand what he’s really with, because you know we’re speculating.

“If we are talking about a form of tendonitis, are we talking about dorsal capsulitis, are we talking about carpal tunnel? What are we talking about and what’s the solvent and what’s the expectation on that solvent? I don’t know what he’s dealing with.

“If he’s dealing with something that he’s trying to calm down and he’s choosing that road before surgery, it’s a smart thing to do even if he’s missing a couple Slams. But if he’s dealing with something that requires more radical measures, you need to choose wisely. You need to get it done by the best in the business. You need to let it heal, because you got a long life ahead of you.

“So one of the things I think it’ll do, it’ll make somebody who obviously loves the game and is hungry about the game even more grateful for the opportunity to come back and do it. I think you’re going to see a more vicious Alcaraz if he can take care of the one thing he only has one of, which is a right wrist.”

Did Andre Agassi win any Grand Slams after undergoing wrist surgery?

It has been reported that Alcaraz has been suffering with tenosynovitis, which is an inflammation of the tendon sheath in his right wrist.

This is similar to the issues that Agassi suffered with in his career and caused him to undergo surgery on in December 2023.

Like Alcaraz, Agassi was 23 years old at the time and it did not prevent him from winning more major titles.

Agassi had only won one Grand Slam before his surgery, and was able to win another seven in his career after undergoing the operation, despite wrist issues reoccurring throughout his career.

This should be encouraging for Alcaraz, who is not reported to have undergone any surgery on his right wrist during his absence from the ATP Tour.
