An Italian player is on course to match Jannik Sinner for ATP title wins in 2026 so far

Jannik Sinner recently completed the Sunshine Double, winning Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

In doing so, Sinner took his ATP title tally to two for the year.

The only other players to have won multiple titles in 2026 are Carlos Alcaraz (Australian Open and Qatar Open) and Daniil Medvedev (Brisbane International, Dubai Tennis Championships).

Is Jannik Sinner now the best server on the ATP Tour?

He won 18 points in a row on serve vs Jiri Lehecka…

They could, however, soon be joined by another Italian…

Luciano Darderi is the favourite to win his second title of the year this week

Sinner’s fellow Italian, Luciano Darderi, has already played two ATP finals in 2026.

The 24-year-old lost to Francisco Cerundolo in Buenos Aires, but bounced back shortly after to clinch the title in Santiago.

This week, he is competing as the top seed at the ATP 250 Grand Prix Hassan II tournament in Marrakech, Morocco.

Darderi is the defending champion in Marrakech, and given the quality of the field, looks likely to retain his title.

Top eight seeds in Morocco

There are only three top-50 players in the draw, and three of the top-eight seeds (Tomas Machac, Kamil Majchrzak, and Vit Kopriva) have already been eliminated.

Competing as a top seed, Darderi received a bye into the second round, where he comfortably beat his fellow Italian, Mattia Bellucci, 6-4, 6-2.

Advancing to the quarter-finals, he will play Yannick Hanfmann, the man he beat to win the Chile Open title earlier this year.

Morocco quarter-finals

Darderi’s trickiest route to the title would include matches against Hanfmann, Corentin Moutet, and Tallon Griekspoor.

All three players are capable of producing some high-level tennis, but you’d be brave to bet against Darderi walking away with another ATP title come Sunday.

How many titles did Luciano Darderi and Jannik Sinner win last year?

Winning titles is an art form Darderi has somewhat mastered over the last year or so.

In 2025, Darderi picked up three trophies, joining Sinner in the top five for title wins.

He has, however, yet to win a title above the ATP 250 level.

If Darderi wants to break into the world’s top 10 later this year, he’ll need to start challenging at some of the sport’s bigger tournaments.

Perhaps he will do just that at the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters.

Darderi will travel to Monte Carlo after he’s done in Morocco.

The Italian has yet to make his debut in the principality, so will be desperate to make an impression when he does so next week.

There’s still work to be done in Marrakesh, though, as Darderi prepares to take on Hanfmann for a spot in the semi-finals on Friday, April 3.
