Amanda Anisimova makes American tennis history after beating Mirra Andreeva in Dubai

Amanda Anisimova won a terrific battle against Mirra Andreeva to secure her place in the semi-finals of Dubai.

The American lost the first set 6-2, but fought her way back to take the next two sets with a scoreline of 7-5 7-6.

Anisimova has bounced back from illness to set up a semi-final contest with her compatriot Jessica Pegula.

By defeating Andreeva in the quarter-finals, Anisimova has carved out a slice of American tennis history.

Amanda Anisimova hits strange American record in Dubai

The American has now reached four WTA 1000 semi-finals in her career following her latest victory in Dubai.

The star has now reached the final four of the Canadian Open, the Qatar Open, the China Open, and the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Anisimova has become the first American woman to reach her first four WTA 1000 event semi-finals outside of the United States, according to OptaAce.

The American has won two of those WTA 1000 events, in Qatar and the China Open in 2025, as she soared up the rankings.

Anisimova defeated Jelena Ostapenko in Doha to win her first Masters event, and she beat Linda Noskova in Beijing.

The star’s only loss in a WTA 1000 event to date came against her upcoming opponent Pegula, who defeated her in the final of the Canadian Open in 2024.

Amanda Anisimova will need to make career history to reach the Dubai final

Anisimova and Pegula are just one place apart in the WTA Tour rankings, with the latter currently occupying the world number five spot.

Despite their similar level in the rankings, Anisimova is yet to defeat Pegula in their four matches on the WTA Tour.

Pegula’s recent victory against Anisimova in the Australian Open quarter-final continued her 100% record against her compatriot.

Anisimova has also faced defeat against Pegula at the Charleston Open, the Cincinnati Open, and the aforementioned Canadian Open.
