Alexandra Eala will be delighted with a decision the WTA Tour have made for the 2026 season

Alexandra Eala enjoyed a monumental breakthrough season in 2025, which saw her crack the top 50 for the first time.

Eala was nominated Newcomer of the Year by the WTA for a season which saw her win the Guadalajara Open and reach the final of the Eastbourne Open.

The 20-year-old picked up victories against Madison Keys, Iga Swiatek, and Jelena Ostapenko across the season.

The rising star has been provided with a major boost at the end of her breakthrough season after the addition of a new tournament in 2026.

Alexandra Eala could return home as WTA Tour adds new tournament

The WTA Tour schedule includes a very interesting new tournament in the Philippines which will surely interest Eala.

The Philippines Women’s Open WTA 125 event will take place in Eala’s home capital of Manila from 26 to 31 January, 2026.

It will be a hard court tournament, following on from the first Grand Slam of the year at the 2026 Australian Open.

Who will win the 2026 Australian Open Women’s Singles title?

$115,000 is on the line for the winner and the tournament is set to feature a 32-women singles draw, as well as a 16-team doubles draw.

Eala has yet to confirm for her home tournament, but it would be a huge surprise if she didn’t end up playing the event.

Alexandra Eala continues to grow tennis in the Philippines

Eala has often opened up about her pride of representing the Philippines and this new tournament will surely continue the growth in the country.

Speaking to Olympics.com earlier this year, Eala expressed that representing her nation is just as important as tournament wins and ranking growth.

She said: “My goal in general, if we’re talking about the big picture, is to be the best version of myself and I cannot personally put a number on that right now – I don’t know, I’m trying to make it higher and higher obviously.

“But I think in regard to coming this far and everything, I take so much pride in this, the effect that I’ve noticed that I’ve had on inspiring a spark of tennis in my country, in Southeast Asia and hopefully wherever else it has.”

Eala’s next tournament appearance is set to be the Macau Tennis Masters in China, which begins on December 27.
