Alexandra Eala’s preparations for the Australian Open have begun well at her first two tournaments of the year.
The 20-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic to begin the year, notching up victories against Donna Vekic, Petra Marčinko, and Magda Linette in Auckland.
Eala is a huge fan of the Australian Open and she continued her preparations by playing the Kooyong Classic.
The Filipina star was arguably the most popular star on the bill, which also included Nick Kyrgios and Matteo Berrettini, and she’s revealed her surprise about the adulation she received in Melbourne.

Alexandra Eala was ‘surprised’ by her crowd reaction in Melbourne
Eala appeared on commentary at the Kooyong Classic after her second consecutive victory over Vekic in Melbourne.
The Filipina star was asked about her adoring fans in Australia, who had flocked to the tournament to see her perform.
Which round can Alexandra Eala reach at the Australian Open?
“I’m so grateful and actually quite surprised with the turnout,” added the world number 49 at the exhibition event.
“I’ve always had a little crowd here in Australia but I think things have changed since last year. I want to thank everyone who took the time to support me and [help] grow tennis in the Philippines.”
Eala’s next match will be at the Australian Open, where she has been drawn in a first round match against Alycia Parks.
Alexandra Eala’s record against American players
Eala’s opening round game at the Australian Open against Parks could be considered tricky, especially due to the American’s former ranking of World No. 40.
However, the rising Filipina has notched up an impressive record against American players during her breakthrough season in 2025.
How high do you think Alexandra Eala’s ceiling is?
Eala played seven American stars last season and only faced two defeats, against Claire Liu and Jessica Pegula.
The star managed to defeat Kayla Day, Varvara Lepchenko, Hailey Baptiste, Madison Keys, and Katie Volynets in 2025.
Her 71% win record against Americans should be a good omen as she looks to find a way past Parks in Melbourne.
