Alexandra Eala needs to make a sensible decision if she wants to continue her current form at Wimbledon

Alexandra Eala has got a big decision to make with just a week to go until Wimbledon this year.

Eala reached the semi-finals of the Berlin Open after beating the likes of Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina.

This has continued an impressive grass court season for Eala, who also won the Birmingham Open title earlier this month.

After Eala lost to Linda Noskova in the Berlin Open semi-finals, it is clear what she has to do next.

Alexandra Eala should not play singles at the Bad Homburg Open

Eala has played three consecutive weeks of tournaments on grass, and she is not scheduled to stop there, as she is also in the Bad Homburg Open.

The Filipina is on double duty at the WTA 500 tournament, with Eala also playing doubles alongside Venus Williams in Bad Homburg.

Eala has noticeably been sporting strapping on both her shoulder and elbow, which is somewhat of a concern ahead of Wimbledon and she should be protecting her body, rather than risking damaging it even further.

Playing doubles with a legend like Williams is understandably an unmissable opportunity for Eala, but she should perhaps reconsider her decision to play singles in Bad Homburg if she wants to do well at Wimbledon this year.

What does Alexandra Eala need to improve in 2026 to challenge for a Grand Slam title?

Eala has also been handed a very tricky draw in Bad Homburg, which includes the likes of Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva in her half of the draw.

The 21-year-old is set to begin her singles campaign against world number 24 Elise Mertens, which is another tough test for Eala and could see her lose in the first round after playing a number of matches recently.

Therefore, this would enable Eala to just focus on doubles, but this is still a huge mental load for her to take ahead of Wimbledon this year.

Alexandra Eala needs to prioritise Grand Slams more

Eala’s current scheduling could be damaging her chances at Wimbledon this year, and it highlights her poor Grand Slam record in comparison to her WTA Tour record.

Since making her Grand Slam main draw debut at Roland Garros last year, Eala has only won one of her six matches at major tournaments.

This came at the US Open last year, but Eala is yet to win a Grand Slam match so far in 2026.

Grand SlamAlexandra Eala’s result
Roland Garros 2025First Round – Lost to Emiliana Arango, 6-0 2-6 6-3
Wimbledon 2025First Round – Lost to Barbora Krejcikova (17), 3-6 6-2 6-1
US Open 2025Second Round – Lost to Cristina Bucsa, 6-4 6-3
Australian Open 2026First Round – Lost to Alycia Parks, 0-6 6-3 6-2
Roland Garros 2026First Round – Lost to Iva Jovic (17), 6-4 6-2

Eala will be seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon this year, which should improve her chances of making a deeper run, but she could make life easier for herself.

In future, Eala should be scheduling better with the major tournaments in mind and this would therefore help improve her ranking, as the most points are on offer at Grand Slams.

Eala is currently missing out on a lot of points at Grand Slam tournaments, despite her ranking now being one away from her career-high of world number 29.

She will be hoping that her current scheduling does not impact her chances of performing well at Wimbledon this year, but Eala may have to do some rethinking if she suffers another early loss at a major.
