Alexandra Eala continues her 2026 season this week at the Italian Open, where the draw has just been confirmed.

Eala is of great importance to tennis, with her loyal following and indeed tournament directors well aware of just how significant she is for the sport.

The Filipina superstar has enjoyed an impressive rise on the WTA Tour so far, although Eala has yet to claim a maiden career title.

She will be hoping for such success at the Italian Open, but it looks likely to be a very difficult task given her potential route to the final.

What does Alexandra Eala need to improve in 2026 to challenge for a Grand Slam title?

Alexandra Eala handed nightmare Italian Open draw

Eala is not seeded at the WTA 1000 tournament, and so will start out in round one, where she meets Pole Magdalena Frech.

Should she emerge victorious from that tricky opener, the 20-year-old will take on 31st seed Wang Xiyu in round two.

Eala could then be faced with a mammoth challenge in the third round, where she could meet Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina.

If the Filipina ace overcomes that hugely tricky test, she could be rewarded with a fourth round tie against either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Madrid Open champion Marta Kostyuk.

Victoria Mboko, Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina are all possible quarterfinal opponents, with Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula and Karolina Muchova among her potential semifinal opponents.

And should Eala hugely impressively make it all the way to the final, she would then likely have to defeat one of Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, Amanda Anisimova or Mirra Andreeva.

Alexandra Eala's projected Rome draw

Alexandra Eala receives WTA rankings boost before Italian Open

It is a daunting challenge for Eala, but she should be able to rely on huge support in Rome, as is the case for most of the tournaments she plays in.

The talented youngster also has the added bonus of a rankings boost on her side, having just climbed two places to 42nd in the new WTA rankings.

She should also be motivated to do better than her last outing at the Madrid Open, where she beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova before losing 6-2, 6-1 to Elise Mertens.

Eala enters the Italian Open with a 16-11 win-loss record for the 2026 season, from which she has earned $565,609 in prize money.

Given the formidable task at hand in Rome, all the Filipina can do is give her very best on the court, but the first goal may perhaps involve last year’s outcome.

She lost 6-0, 6-1 in her opening match against Kostyuk, who she could meet again in the Italian capital this time around.
