The grass courts have rarely been kind to Alexander Zverev.
Zverev has amassed an impressive 24 ATP Tour titles during his career. However, none of these have been grass-court events.
The German star has also severely underperformed at Wimbledon throughout his career, with his best result at the tournament being the fourth round.
This year, Zverev will hope to change his grass-court narrative.

Alexander Zverev is set to play the Stuttgart Open
Zverev is set to compete for the Stuttgart Open title later this year, according to reliable tennis journalist Michal Samulski.
Samulski, who reported Zverev’s participation on X [formerly Twitter], has also noted the inclusion of Nick Kyrgios, Taylor Fritz, Matteo Berrettini, Jan-Lennard Struff, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Justin Engel.
Fritz is the defending champion in Stuttgart, having defeated Zverev in the 2025 final.
After losing 3-6, 6-7 to Fritz in the 2025 final, Zverev joked that he was ‘tired’ of playing the American.

“I’m tired of you, I don’t want to see you over the next two or three years – stay away from me,” Zverev remarked during the post-match ceremony.
Fritz, who did not drop serve throughout the event, noted his delight at winning the title in Germany.
“I’m really happy, especially as it was not too great of a clay season,” the American star said.
“From there, to come and start the grass season off perfectly, I am super happy.”

There is a chance Zverev and Fritz could again meet in this year’s Stuttgart Open final. After all, they are currently the two highest-ranked players on the entry list and would consequently be seeded first and second in Stuttgart.
Alexander Zverev’s run at the 2025 Stuttgart Open
- Round of 16: defeated Corentin Moutet 6-2, 7-6
- Quarter-finals: defeated Brandon Nakashima 7-5, 6-4
- Semi-finals: defeated Ben Shelton 7-6, 7-6
- Final: lost to Taylor Fritz, 3-6, 6-7.
This year’s Stuttgart Open will take place from June 8 to 14.
Will Alexander Zverev win the Madrid Open?
Following the withdrawals of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev now has the perfect chance to win his third Madrid Open title.
The 29-year-old is seeded second in the Spanish capital and has received a bye through to the second round.
There, he will play Nuno Borges or Mariano Navone.
Should Zverev advance further, he would likely play Ugo Humbert in the third round, and Karen Khachanov in the fourth round.
Who do YOU think will win the Madrid Open? 💭
At this year’s event, Zverev will hope to emulate the form that saw him win the Madrid Open title in 2018 and 2021.
However, the German will likely need to go through Jannik Sinner to win the title – and Zverev has struggled against the Italian in recent years.
In fact, Zverev has lost his last eight matches against Sinner, dating back to the 2024 Cincinnati Open.
