Alexander Zverev can finally call himself a Grand Slam champion after years and years of failed attempts.

Whilst the Big Three’s influence waned, he was tipped as the next in line to assert his dominance over the ATP Tour and win major after major.

Few could have possibly accounted for the unexpected arrivals of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, both of whom have helped lock Alexander Zverev out of that illustrious prize for so long.

However, with both removed from his path, this year’s Roland Garros was not an opportunity he was going to spurn; not after he had already lost his first three Grand Slam finals.

And yet, despite finally achieving his life’s work, Zverev has already insisted that a greater goal is now in his sights.

Alexander Zverev reveals his new biggest goal after Roland Garros

When first asked about the grass-court season, Zverev was standoffish in sharing his plans to play at Halle.

However, talking about whether he feels inspired to potentially go on and challenge at Wimbledon, he admitted to Eurosport Germany: “A Grand Slam win is always helpful. (laughs).

How many more Grand Slams does Alexander Zverev win now?

What a final!

“I believe I’m in better form than I was last year and that I can achieve something at Wimbledon as well.”

Zverev expanded on this, whilst also revealing his latest big goal after finally winning that elusive major title.

He added: “I hope that now something has burst and I can continue.

“I still have a goal that I have not yet reached: the number one in the world. I would be happy if I could achieve that for a week. I also didn’t win many big titles. I won one of the Grand Slam tournaments and still a lot ahead of me to achieve. I want to continue working on my dreams.”

Alexander Zverev reveals who congratulated him on his French Open title

In that same interview, the German would then go on to list the many tennis greats who congratulated him on his French Open triumph.

Zverev shared: “For me, private messages have a much greater priority. Of the great tennis players, everyone congratulated me: Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic. Rafa (Nadal) wrote me a very long message, which I thought was incredibly nice.”

Who do you think was a better player: Alexander Zverev or Stan Wawrinka? 🤔

The 29-year-old swiftly added a handful of other superstars from other sports, noting: “Also other athletes: Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Joshua Kimmich. Dirk Nowitzki cheered and wrote me messages during the match.

“That made me very happy.”

Even the German Chancellor congratulated Zverev on his Roland Garros title.
