Alexander Bublik delivers his verdict on if Taylor Fritz is good enough to make a deep run at Wimbledon

Taylor Fritz is shining at Wimbledon once again, having made his way into the quarter-finals this year without really breaking a sweat.

The American is one of the most accomplished grass-court players on the ATP Tour, and his recent performances at this Grand Slam have only reinforced that notion.

To have beaten Alexander Bublik as easily as he did yesterday has many believing that this could be the year where Taylor Fritz genuinely challenges for the title.

Bublik, speaking after their match, has now offered his verdict on this very suggestion.

Alexander Bublik rates Taylor Fritz’s chances of winning Wimbledon

Asked if he felt that Fritz was capable of going deep at Wimbledon after his straight-sets defeat at the 28-year-old’s hands, the Kazakhstani star stated: “Well, I guess there is only one player that’s above everyone here, that’s Jannik, and besides that, I guess everyone is pretty much equal.

“For me, he’s definitely a stronger player and a stronger surface of his is grass. He’s proven that year by year. For me, he’s definitely playing, maybe one of the most dangerous grass court players that I ever faced.

“I think he’s in a good form, so I guess it’s all about the health now, the way he passed through the quarterfinal without dropping a set, or maybe dropped one.

“That helps, so I think now everyone has a fair chance at the bottom draw.”

Just last week, Fritz spoke about whether Grand Slams should scrap best-of-five matches. Given he has dropped just one set all tournament thus far, it seems like the format matters little for this grass-court specialist.

Taylor Fritz could follow in Alexander Zverev’s footsteps at Wimbledon

At Roland Garros, a huge opportunity presented itself for the ATP Tour.

After all, with Carlos Alcaraz having withdrawn before the tournament even began, Sinner’s shock defeat in just the second round blew the draw wide open.

Someone was going to take advantage and become a shock Grand Slam champion, and in the end, it was Alexander Zverev who did just that, finally ending his career-long wait for a major title.

This is exactly what could happen for Fritz, who is undeniably always a threat on the grass and a former semi-finalist at this event as well.

With Sinner and Djokovic still in the draw, the opportunity is not quite as great as it was in Paris. However, neither are as invincible as they once were.
