Alex Eala recorded one of the biggest wins of her career on Sunday after defeating Coco Gauff in Indian Wells.
Eala led Gauff 6-2, 2-0 when the American number one was forced to retire from the match due to an arm injury.
Eala wished Gauff well after the match and will now look ahead to a fourth-round clash against China Open finalist Linda Noskova.
The Filipina is still in the early stages of her career, yet she has already managed to record excellent runs at multiple WTA events, including the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships and her current Indian Wells campaign.
What is the best win of Alexandra Eala’s career so far? 🤔
Iga Swiatek in Miami, Clara Tauson at the US Open, Jasmine Paolini in Dubai, or a different match?
After defeating Gauff on Sunday evening, the 20-year-old identified the ‘biggest result’ of them all.
Alex Eala says her Miami Open run is the ‘biggest result’ of her career so far
Eala first made a name for herself at the 2025 Miami Open, beating Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek on her way to the semi-finals.
At the event, Eala’s run was ended by Jessica Pegula, who won their semi-finals contest 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.
It has been almost a year since that magical run, and Eala has reflected on her performance in Miami.

“Yeah, I think that Miami run was really big,” Eala told reporters in California.
“It was my biggest result, and I think that that was kind of the spark that lit the fire. I learned so much from that week, and I’ll always remember it as that.
“But there are so many things that have happened in between then and now that have added to how I have grown as a player and as a person.
“And I think one of the biggest things is maturity, experience, being able to surround myself consistently with this high of a level of tennis players, and this high of a level of competition pushes me to be better.
“So I’m trying to find my limits and go past that, yeah.”
What does Alexandra Eala need to improve in 2026 to challenge for a Grand Slam title?
Alexandra Eala’s only previous match against Linda Noskova
In the Indian Wells fourth round, Alex Eala faces a tough test in the form of Linda Noskova.
Noskova, 21, is another young star who has blossomed on the WTA Tour in recent times. The Czech player is a former French Open Girls’ Singles champion and is now ranked 14th on the WTA Tour.
Eala and Noskova have never played each other on the WTA Tour. However, they did contest a match at the 2020 French Open in the Girls’ Singles event [a junior tournament].

Eala, seeded second, beat Noskova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in their quarter-final match.
Eala went on to lose in the semi-finals to eventual champion Elsa Jacquemot, 3-6, 2-6.
