Alex Eala joins Emma Raducanu in playing one last tournament before Roland Garros

Alexandra Eala has had a mixed clay-court campaign thus far, with a handful of early exits as she gears up for Roland Garros.

However, it’s worth mentioning that the bulk of her defeats were to top-level players, with her most recent loss coming at the hands of Elena Rybakina in Rome.

Whilst clearly very talented, the Filipina superstar is still some way off competing for the sport’s elite honours.

Alas, she will still have grand aspirations of a deep run at the French Open, and has just entered one final warm-up tournament before the second Grand Slam of the season begins.

Alex Eala plans to play the Strasbourg Open qualifying

In an effort to get more crucial competitive minutes on the clay, it seems Alexandra Eala remains happy to get them any way she can, even if it is through qualifying.

After all, she is aware that such a method is not beneath her, which is a mindset that should serve her well as she continues to establish herself on the WTA Tour.

Has that Alex Eala performance made you more or less confident of her chances at Roland Garros? 🤔

Eala is just three spots away from entering directly into the main draw based on her ranking, behind Peyton Stearns and Kateřina Siniaková.

So, with the WTA-500 event in Strasbourg drawing ever closer, it seems that the 20-year-old sensation will have to settle for a spot in the qualifying.

Other stars already confirmed for the main draw include Hailey Baptiste, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Leylah Fernandez, Madison Keys and Iva Jovic.

Emma Raducanu was also given a wildcard recently to this very tournament.

Alex Eala’s full clay-court schedule for 2026 now confirmed

With Eala’s decision to play qualifying in Strasbourg, she has officially confirmed her absence from the WTA Parma Ladies Open, which started just yesterday.

And, it represents the fifth clay-court event she will have played before Roland Garros.

The youngster kick-started her campaign in Linz, losing narrowly to Jelena Ostapenko after winning her opening-round match.

Is Alex Eala ‘overhyped and overrated’?

Some fans think so…

However, Eala then suffered a first-round exit in Stuttgart and a second-round defeat in Madrid.

Rome was far more profitable, winning two matches, before coming unstuck in a hard-fought battle against Rybakina.

Now, in what should be a far easier draw compared to her last two events, Eala will hope for a strong run so she can head to Paris full of confidence.
